Mayor of Tsantsabane cllr Helena English addressed the Matric Class of 2025 at Blinkklip high school
Good morning, Principal Mr Balston, members of the School Governing Body, dedicated educators, parents and guardians, esteemed guests, and most importantly, the stars of today — the Matric Class of 2025 at Blinklip High School!
It is indeed an honour and a privilege for me, as the Mayor of Tsantsabane , to stand before you on this important occasion. Today is not just another school event — it is a moment of reflection, encouragement, and inspiration. It is a time to remind you that the journey you began many years ago — in Grade 1, maybe with shaky handwriting and oversized uniforms — is now reaching its most defining chapter.
Acknowledging the Journey
Learners, take a moment to breathe and look back. Think about how far you’ve come. The long mornings, the late-night study sessions, the challenges of balancing schoolwork with home responsibilities — all these moments have brought you here.
Some of you have faced personal struggles — illness, loss, poverty, or self-doubt — yet you kept going. You didn’t give up when things were tough, and that resilience already makes you champions.
Matric is not just a year; it is a test of character. It is about discipline, courage, and consistency. It is about proving to yourself that no mountain is too high when your determination is strong.
And so, before you even write your first paper, I want to say this clearly:
You have already achieved something powerful — you have made it this far.
Appreciating the Support System
Behind every successful learner stands a village — teachers who believe in you, parents who pray for you, friends who encourage you, and a community that supports you.
Let’s take a moment to thank the teachers of Blinklip High School. They have sacrificed weekends, sleepless nights, and sometimes even their own comfort to ensure you understand every concept and every formula. They are not just educators — they are builders of futures.
To the parents and guardians, thank you for your patience, your love, and your faith in these young people. You have been the wind beneath their wings.
And to you, the learners — remember: you are not alone. Your entire community is standing behind you, cheering you on as you prepare to take this final step.
The Power of Education
Education, my dear learners, is not just about passing exams — it is about opening doors.
It is about giving yourself the freedom to choose your path, to rise above your circumstances, and to create a life of dignity and opportunity. Education remains the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world, as President Nelson Mandela once reminded us.
When you pass matric, you are not just earning a certificate — you are earning a voice, a chance, a future.
Your education is your passport to possibility — whether you choose to go to university, a technical college, join a trade, or start your own business. The knowledge and discipline you have gained here at Blinklip High will stay with you forever.
Facing the Final Exams
Now, as you approach your final exams, it is normal to feel anxious, nervous, or even afraid. Every great journey ends with a test. But I want to remind you — fear is temporary, but regret lasts forever.
Prepare with confidence. Believe in your abilities. You have been preparing for this moment for 12 long years. You’ve written countless tests, survived many projects, and pushed through long hours of study. You know how to do this.
Success does not come to those who wait; it comes to those who prepare. Wake up early, study smart, take breaks, eat well, and rest. Stay away from distractions — especially social media and negative influences.
In these next few weeks, let your dreams guide your priorities. Every time you feel tired, remind yourself why you started. You are not studying just to pass — you are studying to open your future.
Overcoming Doubt and Fear
Some of you might be thinking, “Mayor, what if I fail? What if I’m not good enough?”
Let me tell you something: failure is not falling down — it is refusing to get up. Even if you stumble, even if things don’t go as planned, it’s not the end. Many great people failed before they succeeded — from inventors to leaders to entrepreneurs. What matters is that you keep moving forward.
Do not compare yourself to others. Your race is your own. Your story is unique. Focus on your lane and give it your all.
Remember: hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Hope Beyond the Exams
Matric is not the end of your story; it’s just the beginning of a new chapter.
Some of you will go on to universities, others to colleges, others to start small businesses or learn trades. Whatever path you choose, walk it with pride, humility, and purpose.
The world you are stepping into is full of challenges — unemployment, inequality, and change. But it is also full of opportunities — new technologies, innovation, and leadership. South Africa needs young people like you — bold, creative, and determined — to drive it forward.
Our country needs doctors, teachers, engineers, social workers, artisans, and leaders who care about their communities. It needs dreamers who act and thinkers who build.
You, the learners of Blinklip High School, are not the leaders of tomorrow — you are the leaders of today.
A Call to Responsibility
With education comes responsibility. You have a duty to use your knowledge to uplift your families, your town, and your nation.
Never forget where you come from. Blinklip is your foundation — the soil that has shaped your roots. But remember, your wings are meant to fly far. Go out into the world, achieve greatness, and one day, return to give back.
Our municipality is committed to supporting education — through bursaries, youth development programs, and partnerships that help young people succeed. But the most important ingredient we need is your determination.
Message of Unity and Encouragement
Class of 2025, you are one family. In these final weeks, support one another. Encourage one another. Celebrate one another. When one of you feels weak, lift them up.
Don’t let competition divide you — let success inspire you. Because when one learner from Blinklip High succeeds, the entire school and community succeed.
Closing Remarks
Let me close with this simple truth:
You are capable.
You are worthy.
You are ready.
Your final exams are not a punishment — they are an opportunity to show the world how far you’ve come. They are your gateway to the next level of your destiny.
So go forward with courage. Write those exams with confidence. Walk into every room knowing that your future belongs to you.
Remember what I always say: “The sky is not the limit — it’s just the view.”
Dream big. Work hard. Believe deeply. And never forget — your community, your teachers, your parents, and your mayor are behind you all the way.
In conclusion
To the Matric Class of 2025:
May your pens never run dry.
May your minds remain sharp.
May your hearts stay strong.
And may your results reflect the greatness that is already within you.
From me, and on behalf of the entire municipality — we wish you the very best in your final examinations. You carry our hopes, our pride, and our future.
Go make us proud. Go write your success story. Go shine.
Thank you.
God bless Blinklip High School, God bless our youth, and God bless South Africa.
